The classic Waffle Sole technology has been seen on the feet of skateboarders all across the globe since The Van Doren company opened their first retail shop in 1966. With a heavy appearance in the film Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Vans gained superlative popularity within the world of skateboarding, surfing, art, music and pop culture in the early 80’s.

Since then, Vans has been recognised as one of the world's leading footwear companies and founding member Steve Van Doren has paid his respects to the world of skateboarding by hosting events such as the annual Bowl-A-Rama competition, Go Skateboarding Day, Vans Park Series and they’ve even made their own skateparks with free public access!

In 2012 Vans released their Pro Skate range, using stronger materials and the honourable Ultra Cush/Waffle Cup sole technology. This saw huge improvement to the quality, durability and longevity of classic styles such as the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi and Authentic.
