GX1000 emerged from San Francisco's skate scene as a video project documenting the city's steep streets and fast, raw street skating. Filmed on the Sony VX1000, Ryan Garshell's footage helped establish the visual identity that became synonymous with GX1000.
The crew featured skaters including Al Davis, Ben Gore, Yoni Cruz and Jake Johnson, while the videos and distinctive San Francisco approach built a global following. GX1000 later expanded into skateboards and apparel, with graphics drawing from street signage, bootleg imagery and popular culture.
Today, GX1000 remains closely connected to San Francisco's streets and the raw, DIY approach that defined the crew from the beginning.
