DC Shoes was founded in 1994 by two friends, Damon Way and Ken Block, in California. Block, a snowboarder, had been creating a line of screen-printed t-shirts that would become the Eightball brand, adored by skate shops. Way was a skateboarder and his brother, Danny Way, was one of the first pro skateboarders to endorse the line.
The two entrepreneurs launched a series of startups, of which Droors Clothing was one. Droors Clothing became DC Shoes; the brand enjoyed explosive growth in the mid-1990s.
Over the years, DC Shoes has been endorsed by professional extreme athletes as well as rock group Linkin Park. The brand has collaborated with artists and pro skateboarders on the design of their shoes and featured hip hop DJs in their print ads. In addition, DC has collaborated with Yamaha to develop a snowmobile for snowboarders, and Rob Drydek to promote the construction of skate plazas.
