Deathwish Skateboards was founded in 2008 by Jim Greco and Erik Ellington under the Baker Boys Distribution umbrella. Both were already established members of the Baker team, and Deathwish gave them a separate platform for a heavier, darker approach to skateboarding. The brand quickly made its mark through Baker Has A Deathwish, the 2008 video that brought together the Baker and Deathwish crews and featured a standout part from Antwuan Dixon.

Deathwish developed a visual identity influenced by 1970s cult films, underground artwork, heavy metal and the imagery of vintage magazine covers and record sleeves. That aesthetic became closely tied to the brand's videos, graphics and team, with riders including Jim Greco, Erik Ellington, Lizard King, Jon Dickson, Jamie Foy and Jake Hayes helping establish its reputation.

Deathwish has remained closely connected to Baker while developing its own identity and team over the years. From its beginnings as a project between two Baker pros, it has grown into one of the most recognisable brands within the Baker Boys family, with its combination of heavy skating, distinctive graphics and unapologetic attitude remaining central to the brand.
