Creature Skateboards was founded in 1994 by Russ Pope under NHS Distribution, emerging from the Santa Monica Airlines scene with a team that included Darren Navarrette, Jason Adams and Barker Barrett. The brand developed a distinct identity around horror, monsters and darker imagery before eventually going on hiatus in the late 1990s. NHS revived Creature in 2005, with Darren Navarrette and Lee Charron helping lead the new era.

Creature's graphics draw heavily from horror films, heavy metal, monsters, skeletons, devils and other dark imagery, with artists including Todd Bratrud contributing to its distinctive visual style. Its board range has also developed around wider shapes and constructions suited to transition, pool and street skating, including VX and Everslick options alongside traditional 7-ply maple decks.

The Creature Fiends represent the brand's approach to skateboarding, with a team built around fast, heavy and unconventional skating. More than 30 years after its original launch, Creature remains part of the NHS family of skate brands, continuing to build its identity around the darker side of skateboarding.
