Smile and Wave was started in a spider-infested backyard shed in Melbourne by Sam Chin, a female person of colour drawing on her family history and cultural identity as the foundation for the brand. Inspired by her Paw Paw, who immigrated from Hong Kong with six children and an extraordinary ability to create clothing from necessity, the brand carries a strong Asian influence expressed through colour, pattern and texture. Every piece is designed to be inclusive and gender-fluid, made for every body. Smile and Wave is committed to sustainability and continuous improvement, and remains one of the most genuinely independent and personal clothing brands to come out of Melbourne's creative scene.
