Founded in 1992 by Tony Hawk and Per Welinder, Birdhouse Skateboards began as Birdhouse Projects at a difficult time for the skateboarding industry. Hawk had reached the point where his career in vert skating appeared to be winding down, but instead of leaving skateboarding behind, he started a company built around the skating and team he believed in.
Birdhouse went on to become one of the most recognisable names in skateboarding, building a team that included riders such as Jeremy Klein, Steve Berra, Willy Santos, Andrew Reynolds, Bucky Lasek and Heath Kirchart. The brand's videos, including The End and Feasters, became an important part of its history, while appearances in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games introduced Birdhouse and its riders to an audience far beyond skateboarding.
More than three decades later, Birdhouse remains closely connected to Tony Hawk and continues to produce a mix of modern skateboards, signature models and reworked versions of its classic graphics and shapes.
